JOHN F. GREEN
GREEN, JOHN F., 88, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 17, 2016. He was born in New York and met the love of his life, Doris Watson while the two worked together in New York City. They married in 1950 and later moved to New Jersey where they raised their five children. In 1971, he moved his family to Miami and joined the St. Louis Catholic Church community. Together, John and Doris were very active in their church community and touched many lives. In the 1980s, John and Doris relocated to St. Louis, Missouri for a career in the robotics industry. After a few years, they returned to their faith community in Miami. Weeks after Hurricane Andrew, he entered the permanent diaconate program with the Archdiocese of Miami. On December 10, 1994, he was ordained as a deacon and assigned to his home parish of St. Louis. He touched many lived during his professional career and his spiritual ministry. He was loved by all who came into contact with him. John was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Doris. He is survived by his daughters Janice Doughty (Mel), Ellen Harford (John) and Patricia Gerrard (Bill), sons John P. Green (Leslie) and Chris Green(Liz), ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He personalized the final blessing of each mass by saying, "go in peace to love and serve the Lord and all of those he places in your path." And he practiced what he preached. He lived his life to the fullest until the very end. Viewing will be from 7-9pm Wednesday, October 19th at St. Louis Catholic Church, 7270 SW 120 Street. Funeral Mass will be at 10am on Thursday, October 20th at St. Louis Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Parent to Parent of Miami, a non-profit organization serving parents of children with disabilities ( ptopmiami.org ).
