John A. Davis PHILO: John A. Davis, 84 of Philo, passed away peacefully at his residence on the morning of October 12, 2016. John was born in Zanesville on August 6, 1932. He is the son of the late Fred and Esther (Kassel) Davis. John retired from the Central Ohio Coal Company after 29 years in the bull gang as a heavy machine mechanic. He is a lifetime member of the Doric Masonic Lodge #140 and called Anchor Lodge #283 in Duncan Falls his home lodge, he was a 32nd degree mason, a member of the Scottish Rite in Ft Lauderdale, FL and Aladdin Shrine in Columbus. He was an avid outdoors man who loved hunting, fishing and shooting. He had a love of RC boats, and enjoyed racing them for over 50 years. He loved his family and enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his wife, kids and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John is survived by his high school sweetheart of 65 years, Phyllis (Roush) Davis whom he married August 11, 1951; his children Christine (Ron) Sirman of FL, Alcinda (Harvey) Cullum of FL and John (Tammy) Davis of Philo; his grandchildren Ronnie, Amy, Harvey, Jason, John, Brad, Ashton and Brittany; 14 great-grandchildren; his brothers Bob (Julie) Davis of Philo and Fred Davis of Zanesville and his furry companions Molly and Lucy. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his sister in law Norma Clell Davis. Friends and family are welcome to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 pm on Monday, October 17, 2016 at the Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls. Anchor Lodge will hold Masonic Services following visitations at 7 pm. A caring cremation will follow. www.farusfh.com
