January 18, 1923 - October 14, 2016 John P. Carey passed away in Riverside, CA on October 14, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was 93 years old. John was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Catherine (Mahon) and James Carey. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy, of 62 years. John served his country in the U.S. Marines during World War II. He landed on Iwo Jima with the 3rd Marine Division and, after the fighting, witnessed the American flag go up on Mount Suribachi. After the war in 1945, John worked for Trans World Airlines in Pittsburgh. In 1952, he moved his family to Compton, CA and continued to work for TWA in Los Angeles until 1985. He loved that job and it allowed him and his family to travel all over the world. After he retired from TWA, John helped to establish the Cerritos Valley Help Center where he worked for 15 years to serve those in need. John is survived by his eight children, 20 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by one brother, four sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. John walked his faith in Christ and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Artesia, CA on October 20th beginning with the Rosary at 11:15 am, followed by the Mass at 11:45 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Los Angeles.
