John "Bud" Browne passed away on Friday, October 14, at the age of 90. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Priscilla Churchill Browne. Devoted to his family and a true friend to many, he was born September 21, 1926. Bud graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1944 and served in the Navy during the battle of the Pacific in World War II. He retired from the Southeastern Correctional Institution at Bridgewater after thirty-five years. Bud was an active hockey player for the Mitchell Club and Middleboro High Schools first hockey coach. He was also a longtime member of the Middleboro Tennis Association. Bud and Priscilla raised their five children in Middleboro and then moved to Wareham after his retirement. They summered at their beloved Onset Island where they had met as teenagers years ago. After his retirement, they enjoyed many years touring campgrounds in Florida during the winter. Bud is survived by his five children, James Browne and his wife Jackie (Meyers), Michael Browne and his wife Terri (Pendleton), Patricia Lapanna and her husband Angelo (Speedy), Lucia Browne, and Jane Strauch and her husband Steve. His grandchildren include AJ Lapanna, Jodi Scroggins, Christopher Browne, Jessica Strauch, Julie Gendron, Heather Alexandre, Gregory Browne and Andrew Browne. He is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held in his honor this Sunday, October 23, from 2-5 at the Middleboro Elks Lodge.
