John P. Atno Grew up in East Orange, traveled the world in retirement John P. Atno, 88, of San Mateo, Calif., passed away on Oct. 4, 2016. John grew up in East Orange, N.J., and graduated from East Orange High School and Seton Hall University. He was employed by Merck & Co. for over 40 years. After retirement from Merck, he was a manager and instructor for H & R Block. He was a member of the San Mateo Elks Lodge, serving twice as its Exalted Ruler. He was also a member of the American Chemical Society. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Atno Sweeney of Metuchen, N.J., and his first wife, Dolores (nee Herner). He is survived by a son, John Douglas of San Mateo, Calif., and a daughter, Michelle Atno-Hall (John) of Redwood Shores, Calif. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Elizabeth and Emily Hall; a brother, Winfield J. of Manasquan, N.J., and several nieces and nephews. John remarried in 2006, and spent 10 years traveling the world and enjoying life with his wife, Jeanne, and his family. Services were held in California.
