July 6, 1971 - October 7, 2016 Joel Robert Baxter, 45, of Woodland Hills, CA, died October 7, 2016. He grew up in Los Angeles and Moscow, Idaho. Joel attended West High School in Torrance, where he was an enthusiastic and dedicated member of the marching band and first developed his interest in woodworking. He spent two years in Japan, teaching English, traveling, enjoying the food, and learning the culture. Joel returned to Idaho and earned his AA degree in Police Science. Working in Los Angeles, he learned the trade of cabinetmaker, and then obtained his general contractor license in 2002. Joel became a highly respected project manager and superintendent with Richard Holz, Inc. and recently started his own firm, Baxter Construction Corporation. Friends and family frequently called upon Joel's knowledge and expertise in woodworking and construction. He was always ready to help. In 2007, Joel married the love of his life, Holly Teter, and they began a beautiful family. They were very active in and embraced by the St. Mel Parish community. Joel was a wonderful Cub Scout master and soccer coach. He loved a good cigar, good whiskey, and country music. He will be deeply missed. Joel was the beloved husband of Holly and the devoted father of Riley, Lily, and Logan. He will always be deeply held in the hearts of his mother Diane Dolan (Sean), father Steve Baxter (Linda), mothers-in-law Cheryl Jensen (George) and Judith Teter, his brother Justin Baxter (Dusty), step-brothers Kelly Dolan (Michele) and Peter Dolan (Andrea), step-sister Colleen Nunn (Dan), sisters-in-law Ginger Zagnoli (David), Amber Smith, and Jamie Horwedel (Justin), and his brother-in-law Jed Teter. He was predeceased by his adoring grandparents Robert and Grace Miller, Robert and Hattie Baxter, grandmother Aloysa Jean Becker, and his father-in-law Edward Teter. He remains in the hearts of his many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, October 15th, 10:30 AM, St. Mel Catholic Church, 20870 Ventura Boulevard, Woodland Hills, CA 91364.
