In memory of
Joann Brownlee, 85, a longtime resident of Valparaiso went to be with her Lord on January 3rd 2017. Joann was born on November 20th 1931 in Palmer TN. to Corwin Edwin and Mildred Violet Ross. She was a "coal miner's daughter "; something of which she was very proud. At 19 she met and married Darrell Brownlee, a young soldier in the Army Air Corp. They were married for 38 years and had 4 children. As a military wife, she traveled extensively supporting her husband and family which she found very fulfilling. Joann loved nature and liked taking her walks just to take in the scenery, or listen to the birds sing. She also dearly loved music and dancing, as well as being an avid reader. She also loved to talk and socialize with all. She never met a stranger. Joann was preceded in death by her daughter Cynthia Johnson. She is survived by her 3 other children; Debra Britts and husband Harry of Lynn Haven FL, Patricia Brownlee of Winston Salem NC and Robert Brownlee of Crestview FL. She was "Granny" to 6 grandchildren Stacie, David, Dylan, Ian, Sarah and Joseph. She also has 2 great grandchildren Ashley and Hannah. She is survived by a sister, Jane Wise of Chattanooga TN and a brother Greg Ross of Palmer TN. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her dear friends and caregivers, Lisa, Jeannie, Maggie and Cross Point Church of Niceville FL. They took her under their wing and provided care that allowed her to reside in her home, as was her wish during her final years. There will be a private graveside service at Sunset Cemetery in Valparaiso FL. Expressions of sympathy may be viewed or submitted online at www.mclaughlintwincities.com
