Bennett, Joann Joann Bennett, a long-time resident of Laguna Beach, passed away in her sleep at home on Friday, December 23, 2016 after a long illness. She was born September 13, 1937 in Clermont, Iowa. She is survived by two sisters, Joyce Schott and Jane Bennett and one brother, John Bennett all of Clermont, Iowa. Jo received her bachelor's degree from Upper Iowa Univ. in 1960 and her master's degree from Northwestern University in 1964. She devoted her working career to teaching, first in Iowa as a high school teacher and then moved to California where she worked in the Fullerton District. She tried her hand in the east at SUNY Oneonta for a year but quickly decided she no longer liked snow and cold. Jo worked for a year at St. Paul's Catholic school but then found her niche at Saddleback College in 1969 where she taught until her retirement in 1993. She taught literature, poetry, and acting classes but her primary love was teaching speech classes. During her days at Saddleback, she taught close to 10,000 students how to give a speech without dying from fright. To complete her retirement, she took part time jobs working at Costco passing out food samples and at the Apple Store as a concierge. After "retirement", Jo loved to travel all over the world. She especially liked photographing wildlife and her two Birman cats and photographed them in all kinds of poses which she also shared with anyone who would look. Jo is survived by her long-time friends, Bonnie Cogbill of Laguna Beach and Jean Vincenzi of San Juan Capistrano along with many others who will sorely miss her. Memorial gifts can be made to the Saddleback College Foundation in the name of Joann Bennett.
