JoAn M. (Hoy) Strande
2016) JoAn Maxine Strande died peacefully on October 4, 2016 at her home in Carmichael, California, following a short battle with cancer. She was born in Winner, South Dakota on July 25, 1938. She later attended Wall High School and graduated in a class of four. After graduating from high school she received a degree from National School of Business in Rapid City, South Dakota and eventually moved to California with her two sons, and husband at the time. Her expert skills at typing, dictation, shorthand, and her commitment to hard work landed her a job at the State Capital in Sacramento, California as a secretary to Senator Randolph Collier. JoAn was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking, reading, hiking, water-skiing, and being with her family and friends. She was a risk taker who never shied away from a challenge. In 2008 she went skydiving to celebrate her 70th birthday. JoAn is remembered as a beautiful woman who was generous and kind hearted, with a sharp sense of humor, and a deep love of family. She overcame adversity many times in her life and her strength and perseverance inspired those around her to be better people. JoAn is preceded in death by her mother Gladys Mae Hoy, her father Lawrence Harold Hoy, her sister Carol Dean Jobe, and her husband John A. Turner. Her brother Larry Hoy, her two sons Steve and Shawn Strande, six grandchildren and one great grandchild survive her. Her life will be celebrated privately with family and close friends.
