JoAn Buzzell 1923 - 2017 SOLDOTNA, Alaska - JoAn Buzzell, 93, died at Riverside Assisted Living in Soldotna, Alaska on Jan. 5, 2017. She was born JoAn Edith Lenfest on Sept. 19, 1923 in Wakefield, Mass. to Gladys Ring Lenfest and Maurice Lenfest. After high school graduation, her family moved to Maine, where she attended hairdresser school. She owned JoAn's Beauty Shop in Winthrop for many years, employing up to five operators. She married William D. Snow, and when he returned with the U.S. Marines from the Pacific after WWII, they had a daughter, Billie. After they divorced, JoAn married Harvey E. Buzzell in 1947, who had served as an army radioman in Europe. In 1950 they welcomed a son, Craig. JoAn was a perfect example of the Yankee work ethic. She helped run the family farm, knitted beautiful sweaters, cooked wonderful meals and desserts, and lent a hand whenever friends needed one. She was a member of Gospel Hall Assembly in N. Augusta, and later Anchorage Christian Assembly and Kenai Bible Chapel in Alaska. The couple moved to Kenai, Alaska in 1977, three years after Billie and Joe Hardy relocated, in order to be near their grandchildren. JoAn worked for Alaska Aeronautical Industries at the Kenai Airport and later lived and volunteered at the Vintage Pointe Manor after Harvey had passed away in 2002. JoAn leaves many friends across the country. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings David and Paul Lenfest, Audrey Buzzell; her husband Harvey; and niece Carolyn Campbell. She is survived by daughter Billie Hardy (Joe), son Craig Buzzell (Debbie); grandson Scott Hardy (Pamela), granddaughter Shanon Davis (Jason); five great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. JoAn has lived at Riverside Assisted Living for three years. She was proud to tell friends that her son-in-law, Joe, was the construction supervisor of the beautiful facility. Family thanks the staff who always made her last months happy and comfortable. A brief graveside service will be held 2:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2016, at Soldotna Community Memorial Park.
