ATHENS — Jim Brownsey, 56, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2016, in Nashville. Jim was born in Chattanooga, and was a long time resident of Athens, Tenn.,and Franklin, Tenn. He was a son of the late Ralph Williamson and Jimmie Hope Slack Brownsey. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Lt. Commander Tom Brownsey; and an aunt and uncle, Helen and Rankin Hudson. Jim was a former longtime member of First Baptist Church of Athens, and was a current member of Manilla Chapel Baptist Church. He was an Eagle Scout and attended TMI in Sweetwater. He graduated from McMinn County High School in 1978, and graduated from Cleveland State Community College in 1980. He finished up his studies at University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He worked at the Knoxville 1982 World's Fair and the New Orleans 1984 World's Fair. Jim was presently associated with Benchmark Realty in Nashville, and had worked in real estate since 1989. He was a lifetime member of Williamson- Davidson County Board of Realators. Jim is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Brownsey; a daughter, Madison Elizabeth Brownsey, both of Athens, Tenn.; mother-in-law, Ivory Eaton, of Niota; sisters and brothers-in-law, Beth and Jim Fry, of Dunwoody, Ga., and Hope and Eddie Kirkland, of Nashville; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Pat Brownsey, of Ringgold Ga.; five nieces, Holly Fry, Angela Brownsey Stone, Liane Brownsey, Elizabeth Kirkland Burch, and Katherine Kirkland; and three nephews Tommy Fry, Sid Brownsey, and Tab Brownsey Norris. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at Cedar Grove Cemetery, with Rev. Daustin Kratzer officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Smith Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Eddie Kirkland, Jim Fry, Tommy Fry, Tab Norris, Sid Brownsey, Alvin Basel, Dennis Khadartsev and Sergey Nesteruk. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Collins and Bill Brownsey. The family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Athens, 305 Ingleside Avenue, Athens, TN 37303.
