Jesse D. Cherry
Jesse D. Cherry 1926—2016 Jesse Cherry of Rockford passed away at Alpine Fireside on October 15th. He was born in Hidalgo, IL to Elza and Minnie Cherry. Jesse served in the U.S. Navy - Seabees during World War II and was stationed in Saipan. When he returned to the states, he moved to Rockford and found employment at Rockford Screw Products. He retired after 38 years of service. Jesse met his wife, Judith in Rockford and they were married 63 years before she passed on in 2013. She was the love of his life. Jesse enjoyed camping at Devil's Lake where many family memories were made. He also loved bowling, antiques and working in his yard. Jesse and his wife were members of Sons of Norway for many years. He also volunteered at the Y and sold Christmas Trees at Highcrest Shopping Center. He is survived by daughter, Linda (Doug) Petersen; grandchildren, Corine and Collin Martinovich; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Lily; brother, Elza "Frank" Cherry and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by wife, Judith, parents, Elza and Minnie, brothers, Charles, Lloyd, and Roy and sister, Dorothy. Jesse will remembered for being a loving father and grandfather. He is now united with his family and God. Peace be with you. We will always love you and remember you until we meet again…. A service to celebrate Jesse's life will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 20th at Advantage Funeral Home, 7000 W. State St. Rockford, IL. with a visitation from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Machesney Park. Condolences may be sent to the family. www.advantagefunerals.com
