Jerry L. THOMPSON
THOMPSON, Jerry L. Essexville, Michigan Jerry L. Thompson, 78, of Essexville, our loving, humorous, and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend went home to be with the Lord on the evening of Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at McLaren Bay Region. Jerry was born in Hillsdale on July 8, 1938, the son of the late Blair and Freida (Slocum) Thompson. Growing up, Jerry could be found helping his father in his well drilling business in Hillsdale and the surrounding areas. Jerry graduated from Hillsdale High School and enlisted with the U.S. Navy, serving from 1956-1960 aboard the USS Cadmus AR-14 as an Electronic Technician (Sonar). At Spartan Electronics, Jerry met the love of his life, the former Helen Geiersbach. Their 53 years were blessed with four children and countless memories. He retired from General Motors Powertrain after 30 dedicated years. Jerry was an active member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, and was a former trustee and congregation president for 15 years. He enjoyed reading, electronics, NASCAR, airplane shows, color tours, and trips to the casino where he could be found on the penny and nickel slot machines. Jerry was a man who was helpful to all and will be lovingly remembered for generations to come. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife Helen and their four children: Cindy (Tom) Bond of Bay City, Wayne (Rose) Thompson of Florida, Jerry Thompson of Virginia, and Thomas (Sandy) Thompson of Bay City. Jerry was the supporting and loving grandfather of Kristy (Joe) Harris, Steven (Shelly) Bowker, Shauna Mason, Trisha and Tyler Thompson, and Nicholas and Olivia Thompson. He will forever be missed by his great-grandchildren, Joseph, Logan, Conner, Emily, and sisters, Rita Kae and Jackie (Ken) Motter, along with many nieces and nephews.
