HAW RIVER – Mr. Jerry Dale Ray, 75, of Haw River went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 18, 2016 at 8:46 a.m. A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Betty Miller Ray, who survives and the son of James Edgar Ray and Pauline Baker Ray, both deceased. Mr. Ray was a veteran of the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne and retired with 33 years of service as a mail courier with Burlington Industries, later he was a tram driver with Elon University and most recently, he was a security officer with Securitas. Jerry was an avid HAM radio operator, a former member of Haw River Volunteer Fire Dept. and was an artist with many paintings in his collection. He was a member and a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Haw River. In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include one daughter, Kelly Ray Compton and her husband, Billy of Graham; three sons, Jerry Dale Ray, II and his wife, Lisa of Dallas, TX, Jeff Ray and his wife, Stephanie of Burlington and Sam Ray and his wife, Amber of Graham; Fifteen grandchildren, Hannah Ray, Davis Ray, Weston Ray, Tucker Ray, Elijah Britt, Cherish Ray, A. J. Ray, Logan Compton, Olivia Henry, Ryan Henry, Lilly Compton, Jake Compton, Hunter Ray, Harrison Ray and Hudson Ray; two sisters, Pat Grant of Philadelphia, TN, Toni Hicks, and her husband, Jerry of Buford, GA; and two brothers, Jim Ray and his wife, Ann of Batesburg, SC and David Ray and his wife, Betty of Haw River. The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 12 p.m. by Rev. Walter Jones and Rev. Don Pegg. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mebane. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Other times they will be at the residence.
