Jerry L. Borden Sr
Jerry L. Borden Sr., of Powderly, Texas, passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, with pneumonia and related complications, at the Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas, surrounded by his family. A native of Palestine, Ark., Jerry was born in Glen, Miss., on Oct. 23, 1943, to David Glen and Meckie Mae Johnson Borden. Jerry retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer, serving with pride and honor aboard the USS Kittyhawk. After retirement from the Navy, he enjoyed a second career working with Lineback & Associates. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of many years Betty Beal Borden; his parents David and Meckie Borden of Palestine; brothers, Donald Borden of Reading, Pa., and Larry Smith of Waverly, Tenn.; and his sister, Joyce Jones of Palestine. He is survived by two children, Jerry L. Borden Jr. (Fawn) and grandson Parker of Conway and daughter Sgt. Valerie Powell and granddaughter Olivia Goforth of Fayetteville, N.C.; also four stepchildren, Sheila Beal and grandchildren Josh Cook and Amber Askins of Powderly, Texas, Ronnie Askins (Jamie) and grandchildren Joseph, Britney and Tyler of El Paso, Ark., Angela Whitmire and grandchildren Dawn Scercy and Andrea Sohn and Becky Price and grandchildren Chase Askins and Nick and Jack Price of Searcy. Jerry is also survived by his sisters, Marie Miller of Searcy, Doris Waggoner (Joe) of Cherokee Village and Phyllis Autry (Charles) of Palestine, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial service has not been planned at this time.
