In memory of
Jeraine Clogston
Jeraine Clogston Jeraine A. Clogston, 87, of San Luis Obispo, died peacefully with her son Mark at her side on August 16, 2016. Jeraine, known as Jerrie, was born to parents Bernice and Horace Lloyd in April 1929, in Washington State. She was an only child and spent summers at her grandparents' apple farm in Wapato, Washington. She graduated from Renton High School and attended Western Washington College in Bellingham, Wash. where she met her husband Fred L. Clogston. After leaving the Seattle area the family spent two years in Isla Vista, Calif. before moving to San Luis Obispo in 1960, where Fred taught Bio Science at Cal Poly. Jerrie did not drive during her children's growing up years so many adventures were done by bicycle. Jerrie was an avid nature lover and amateur botanist and was forever foraging the fields for edible plants "a la Euell Gibbons." She was a homemaker and a Camp Fire leader. She took her family and Campfire group on bicycle camping trips to Morro Bay State Park and San Simeon State Beach. After her divorce she worked as a pre-school teacher and home health aide. She later moved to Hawaii to care for her mother and spend time with her grandchildren, whose parents were stationed at Hickam AFB. While in Hawaii she enjoyed kayaking and snorkeling with sea turtles, watching surf contests and collecting shells for crafts. Jerrie later returned to San Luis Obispo County and was able to continue her active lifestyle of gardening, camping and attending music festivals, despite having had surgery for Gastro Intestinal Cancer. She enjoyed attending and dancing at the Sizzling Summer Concerts in Grover Beach. She lived on her own until shortly before her death. Jerrie is survived by her children, Karen Arrona, Linda Hochstetler (Ginger), Diane Clogston, Mark Clogston (Cindi), Barbara Arnold (Doug); grandchildren, Dave Arrona (Melissa), Ben Arrona (Maggie), Amber Alter (Brian), Aaron Arnold, Andrew Arnold, Jessica Clogston-Kiner, Ashley Clogston and Cody Clogston; and great-grandchildren, Kayleigh and Kaitlin Arrona and Silas Clogston. She was predeceased by her parents, her ex-husband and, sons-in- law, Louis Cromsigt and Santos Arrona. A Memorial Celebration will be held at 5:30pm on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at Creekside Mobile Home Park Club House. Come and share your memories of mom, who was a wonderful mother, always young at heart with a great sense of humor. Her ashes will be scattered at sea by family members prior to the Celebration. Thanks to her doctors Dr. David Palchak and Dr. Hayashi who treated her during her 15 year battle with cancer, and to the staff at Bella Vista Transitional Care Center, who were absolutely wonderful.
