In memory of
Jennie Long
Jennie Long, 97, a lifelong resident of Old Forge, died Sunday morning at home after an illness. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, William J. Long, on Jan. 28, 1999. Born on June 19, 1919, daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Graziano Dattilo, Jennie was a proud graduate of Old Forge High School class of 1937, where she continued to organize her class reunions for 65 years after graduation. She worked for Butler Silk Mill before retiring from Brooks Manufacturing in 1981. Jennie was a lifelong and deeply devoted member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Prince of Peace Parish, Old Forge, where she was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and choir. She was also a member of Old Forge Senior Citizens. A charter member of the former Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 4954 of Old Forge, where she served as past president and secretary, she earned her life member status as a member of Post 3474 of Dunmore. She was also a member of American Legion Post 513 before its closure. For many years, Jennie worked on election day as majority inspector of the sixth ward as Democratic deputy chief. She led an amazing life while with us, touching the lives of all of those who knew her, living and predeceased. Passing away peacefully surrounded by family, she will be forever missed. She is survived by her adoring family: her daughter, Joanne Natalie Lia and husband, Frank, and her granddaughter, Stephanie Jo, all of Old Forge; and many nieces and nephews, including Sally Guarino, who selflessly assisted as one of Jennie's caregivers. She was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Anthony; and sisters, Marie Salerno, Adeline Nemetz and Madeline Leoniak. Her daughter would like to acknowledge and thank Compassionate Health Care's entire staff as they deeply cared for Jennie for six years. Also, she would like to thank the staff of Traditional Home Health and Hospice for the amazing care given to Jennie during her final weeks. The funeral will be Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Prince of Peace Parish, Old Forge, to be celebrated by the Rev. August A. Ricciardi, pastor.
