Jeanette Brideson Shapley, of Arroyo Grande, CA., passed away on Friday, September 16, 2016. Born on December 13, 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa, daughter of Everett Lyman Brideson and Gertrude Kinnick Brideson. She moved to Sacramento as a young girl, and graduated from McClatchy High School in the class of 1955. She moved to San Luis Obispo County in 1957, where she and her husband, Richard Owen Shapley, built their 62 years of life together. She earned a Bachelor's Degree at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, in 1976. A loving and faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, World traveler, and community leader, she pursued a full career in the registrar's office at Cuesta Junior College until retiring in 1995. Jeanette loved traveling the world and all of its continents. A historian, hostess to all, lover of laughter, warm hearted listener, confidant, passionate storyteller and advisor, she set a place at her table for everyone. She shared wisdom and deep relationships with family, who dearly loved her in return. Jeanette's reassuring smile was a constant reminder to always look at the brighter side of life. Her passionate leadership, laughter, gift of gab, and sweet melodies will remain in the memories of all who shared in her life. She is survived by her devoted husband, and fellow globetrotter, Richard Owen Shapley; her son, Edward Owen Shapley and his wife, Janine Arroyo Shapley, her two daughters, Laura Shapley-Weiss and Rosemarie Linda Shapley, her five grandchildren, Adam Franklin Shapley, Marilyn Elizabeth Shapley, Ryan Shapley Dollahon, Glenn Owen Shapley, Michael Roy Weiss and Caitlin Lisa Weiss, her four great-grand-children, Connor, Renee, Brenna and Owen, and her brother John Kinnick Brideson. In lieu of services, Jeanette requested that loved ones would gather to celebrate her life in their own way.
