Jean C. Rutzke
Rutzke, Jean C. nee: Golata Age 85 of Elmira. Surrounded by her loving family, while holding the hand of her devoted husband of 64 years, entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. Jean was born on September 6th, 1931, in Elmira, NY to the late Joseph and Violet Seymour Golata. She is survived by the love of her life, Bernard; children, Michael (Corey) Rutzke, Ithaca, Mary Theresa (Andrew) Keefer, Sayre, PA, Bernadette (Whang) Phang, Arlington,VA, Katherine Hoey, Athens, PA, Margaret Rutzke, Elmira, Jean (Bruce) Askey, Elmira; 15 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brothers, Joseph and William Golata, sisters-in-law, Regina Duffy, Dorothy (John) Bellinger, Sister Rita Rutzke SSJ; several neices, nephews, and cousins; predeceased by her parents; son, Gerard; sisters, Judith Golata and Lucile O'Leslie. Jean graduated from Elmira Catholic High in 1950. She was a devoted Catholic who loved the Lord and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She also opened her heart to many foster children through the years, teaching us all that a full heart always has room to share more love. Jean's greatest joy came from spending time with her family, whether the occasion was a picnic or party, going on a vacation, sharing a meal or simply sitting around her home in the presence of her grandchildren, whom she adored. Those wishing to make donations in Jean's memory can be made to Alzheimer's Association, Blessed Sacrament Parish and Notre Dame High School (envelopes available at the funeral home and her Mass). Jean's family wants to give a special Thank You to the devoted nursing staff at Chemung County Nursing Facility for their outstanding care and support. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Kalec Funeral Home, Thursday, March 16th from 6-8 p.m. A prayer service there Friday, March 17th at 9:00 a.m. followed by her Mass of Christian Burial in Sts. Peter & Paul's Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial to follow at Sts. Peter and Paul's Cemetery.
