TUPELO – Jean S. Braden, 90, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016, at Traceway in Tupelo, Mississippi. She was born October 23, 1925, in Oktibbeha County to the late Steven Forest and Thelma Allen Shurden. Jean was married to Guy Brice Braden until his passing on January 2, 1972. She attended Wood Junior College in Mathiston and Mississippi State University. She was retired from the Social Security Office. Jean enjoyed to knit, crochet, cross stitch and play bridge. Jean was a longtime member of Parkway Baptist Church since the late 1960's. Survivors include her daughters, Linda Thompson (Bruce) of Florence and Debbie Perry (Stan) of Booneville; son, Dr. David Braden (Karen) of Brookhaven; sister, Mavis Fulgham of Maben; brothers, Loyd and Leon Shurden of Mathiston; grandchildren, Katy Braden Robertson of Atlanta, Georgia, Brice Thompson of Florence, Marley Evans (Beck) of Burlington, Vermont, Blaise Braden of Brookhaven and Ansley Braden of Brookhaven; several great-grandchildren and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2016, at W. E. Pegues. Services will be 3 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2016, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with the Rev. Matt Scopel officiating. Graveside services will follow in Lee Memorial Park. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Guy Brice Braden; brothers, Harold and Elbert Shurden; sister, Lorene Morphis and a brother-in-law, Alec Fulgham. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brice Thompson and Blaise Braden. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, Texas 75231.
