Jay (J.G.) Hambright Flora Jay (J.G.) Hambright passed away Thursday evening at the age of 71, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. Visitation will be Monday, the 17th, at 2:30pm at Wilcox Funeral Home in Carthage. Services will follow at 4pm, with burial in Madden Cemetery. Jay was born in Sweetwater, Texas, and grew up in Meridian, MS before receiving his Masters and Bachelors Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. A Marine Corps Veteran, Jay also completed graduate study at the University of Mississippi and Mississippi State University, as well as the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma. Jay loved Mississippi, serving on numerous Councils and Boards of State and National Economic Development Organizations. He was Division Director for National Recruitment and Director of the Initial Existing Industry and Business Division serving the MS Department of Economic and Community Development with passion and love for the state. He would later serve as the Senior VP of Economic Development for the MetroJackson Chamber of Commerce. Jay was an avid outdoor and sporting enthusiast who put his family first. From coaching baseball, soccer and tennis with his sons, to hunting and camping with his family, he never missed an opportunity to enjoy life. Jay loved to fish… serving as President of the Jackson BASS Federation, he could be found many a weekend "fishing on the Rez". He was preceded by his sweet mother, Mary Thornton; and caring sister, Patricia Hambright. Survivors include his loving wife, Marie Hambright; his son and daughter-in-law, Ashton and Chrissy Hambright; his son, Scott Hambright; his father-in-law, Dr. Harold Taylor; and sister-in-law, Martha Sanders.
