Jasper Duane Turner, age 93, of Pembroke Pines, FL, passed away on Wed., Oct. 12, 2016. Jasper was born on July 24, 1923, to the late Beulah Stafford and Jacob Francis Turner of Fincastle, VA. He attended the Univ. of VA for two years before being called to service in the Army as a Ranger in World War II. He fought in the Italian campaigns of Northern Appenine, Po Valley, and Rome Arno and was awarded three bronze battle stars, the purple heart, and the Bronze Star. In 1947 he graduated from the Univ. of VA and was employed by C&P Telephone of Charleston, WV, retiring as District Manager in 1982. He married Marilyn Hamrick on Aug. 8, 1952, resided in South Charleston, WV, and was an active member of Christ Church United Methodist, serving many years as a Stephen's Minister. From 1999 to 2016 he and Marilyn resided in Pembroke Pines, FL, where they were both active members of New Horizon United Methodist Church. He raised three sons in the faith and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son, as well as friend to many, always placing their needs before his own. Jasper was preceded in death by his father and mother; his brothers Frank, Fred, Elbert, Randall, Thurman, Trevor, and Rodney; his sister Rosalie Ralph and his son John Francis Turner. Jasper is survived by his wife Marilyn; his sister Joan Sale; his sons Alan and Jay; and by his grandchildren Nathan and Morgan. A service to honor his life will be held at 11:00 am on Mon., Oct. 17, 2016 at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, WV, with pastor Steven Rhodes of Christ Church residing. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, WV. Family and Friends may visit from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, Mon., Oct. 17, 2016, at Snodgrass Funeral Home.
