DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Janice Ann McBride Schemmel, 80, of Daytona Beach, Fla., died Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, peacefully at hospice after a brief illness. She was born Aug. 7, 1936, in Piqua, OH, to the late Clarence S. and Ethel A. (Curtner) McBride. She was a graduate of Bradford High School, Class of 1954. Jan worked as a cosmetics consultant for Merle Norman. Jan lived with class, spirit and dignity and always had a willingness to help others. Her many hobbies included devoting time to support other military families through e-mail groups and chat. She admired crafts and enjoyed collecting recipes, gardening and the internet. Jan was a loving mother not only to her children and grandchildren, but also to her pet bird Buddy, who she adored. She had many friends far and near. Her best friend of the last 20 years, Phyliss Blais, has the privilege of having many special memories with Jan from their weekly outings. Jan had a large extended step-family who loved and appreciated her. Preceded in death by her parents; sister Marilyn Shoffner of Bradford, OH; brother Larry Gene McBride of Bradford, OH; and daughter Melody Hampton of West Milton, OH. Survived by her husband Leo C. Schemmel; brother Ronnie McBride (Judy) of Greenville, OH, son Rick Miller (Janice) of Clarksville, TN; daughter Jaci Clark (Rocky) of St. George, W.V.; son-in-law Kim Hampton of West Milton, OH; grandchildren Adam and Colton Miller, Chad, Buck and Shaun Clark, Sara Taylor, Ryan Hampton; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends. A memorial will be held at a later date in Bradford, OH.
