Janice K. Costella
Janice K. Costella June 16, 1930 - Dec. 1, 2016 Walnut Creek, California Beloved family member, friend, teacher and community volunteer, Janice passed away surrounded by family and friends. Daughter of John and Kathryn Costella, she was born in Santa Cruz. She graduated Holy Names High School (Oakland) in 1948, received a B.A. from U.C. Berkeley (1952), and an M.A. from Holy Names College (1969). Janice was a member of Delta Sigma Epsilon Sorority (later known as Delta Zeta Sorority) and kept lifelong friendships. She enjoyed extensive travel. Janice built a very successful career teaching foreign language at Lafayette School for 37 years. She was recognized as California's Outstanding Foreign Language Teacher in 1984 and took a European sabbatical to immerse herself in several foreign cultures. She later served on the Board of Directors of the California Language Teachers' Association. She was loved and admired by students and colleagues. The memorial mass at St. Mary Catholic Church in Walnut Creek is Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., a reception will follow in the St. Elizabeth Room on site. Janice will be be laid to rest with her family at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery.
