Janet M. DeMeis
DeMeis, Janet M. Rochester: Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Unity Hospital in Rochester, NY. She was born Jeanne Marie Dumas on March 11, 1925 in Hanoi, French Indochina, and relocated to Nice, France with her mother and siblings after the Japanese Occupation. On September 1, 2015, she was predeceased by her devoted husband of 69 years, Joseph A. DeMeis, Sr. (Age 94). They are survived by their loving children, Michael (Margery), Joseph Jr. (Jane) DeMeis, and Claire (DeMeis) Ariano; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren. Joe's sister, Mary Lanzafame; several nieces and nephews. The couple met in Europe during WWII while Joe was serving in the US Army. After the war they were married on March 4, 1946. They lived in Greece, NY, where Joe retired as a Postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service and Janet as Cafeteria Manager for the Greece Central School District. After their retirement they lived in Clearwater, FL for about 30 years before returning to Rochester. Joe was a member of the American Legion Greece Post #468. He served as a Commander of the Monroe County American Legion and as District Commissioner of the Red Jacket District of the Boy Scouts of America. Janet was considered to be an extraordinary baker and for many years "supervised " Joe in the delivery and assembly of the wedding cakes, which she had baked. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, October 29, at 9:30AM at St. Theodore's Catholic Church, 168 Spencerport Rd. Followed by their burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
