JAMES "BILL" THOMAS, 84, passed away Monday, Oct. 17, 2016. He was born in Carroll ton, Mo. on Dec. 17, 1931. Bill graduated from the University of Missouri in 1954 with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. He served as a Captain in the Air Force and was called back to duty to serve in the Cuban Missile Crisis because of his background in electronics. He worked as an electrical engineer with General Motors for 30 years, and Magnavox for 14 years, retiring in 1997. He was an active member of Faith Baptist Church, Missouri Alumni Association, and the amateur "Ham" radio. Bill enjoyed being involved with church activities and the Kensington Downs Association. Surviving are children, Sandra (Philip) Crewson, Barbara (Philip) Herb and Donald (Barbara) Thomas; grandchildren, Karl (Michelle) Herb, April Crewson and Kayleen Herb; sister, Oleda Cooper; and brother-in-law, George (Mary Jane) Vemer. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillian Thomas; and his wife of 53 years, Joan V. Thomas. Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at Faith Baptist Church, 6600 Trier Road, with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Steven Roper officiating. Visitation also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, at D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road. Burial in Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church.
