Taunt, James (Jim) 89, of Ahwatukee passed away on October 4, 2016. Born on Thanksgiving Day, Jim Taunt always said he came out a turkey but tried to fly like an eagle. Jim was born to Martha (Comps) and Joseph Taunt in Pontiac, MI on November 25, 1926. He earned his electrical engineering degree from Northwestern University in Chicago. After graduation, he joined IBM and was sent to Philadelphia for "IBM computer school". On an unplanned but fateful trip to the IBM infirmary, he met his future bride, the love of his life, Grace Bell. They were married on November 29, 1952. Jim's work took them across the country but eventually they returned to Phoenix to be closer to their children. Jim retired from Allied Signal in 1993 to spend time with his beloved Grace until she passed in 1996. He was lucky to find love and companionship a second time, marrying Goldie (Jones) in July, 1997. They enjoyed their life together until her departure in 2005. Jim's faith, his church and his family were his greatest passions. He was happiest when surrounded by friends and family and always enjoyed a lively debate with anyone who would dare to engage. He will be remembered for his generosity, his sense of humor and his intellect. Jim is survived by his daughters: Linda Taunt and Marta (Mark) Stein; his grandchildren Kris, Allison and Nicole Stein, and Raylene Lewis; two great-grandchildren; and many good friends. A memorial mass to be held at 9:30 AM on October 22, 2016 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church at 3550 E. Knox Rd., Phoenix, 85044. A reception will follow at 1:00 PM at the Ahwatukee Recreation Center at 5001 E. Cheyenne Drive, Phoenix, 85044. A special thanks goes to Ahwatukee Senior Services and to the caregivers from Hospice of the Valley for the excellent care they provided in his final days. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Hospice of the Valley or Maryknoll Missionaries.
