James B. Sproat 76 years James B. Sproat, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 6, 2017 in Meridian, Idaho. Jim was born to Owen and Bernice Sproat in Boise on November 7, 1940 to the delight of his older brother, Ric. The Sproat family's get-away destination was often the Shore Lodge in McCall where, in the winter, they snow skied at Brundage Mountain Ski Resort and, in the summer, they water skied on Payette Lake. Growing up in Boise, Jim graduated from Borah High School in 1958 prior to attending Boise Junior College. He reported to the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida in 1961 as a Marine Aviation Cadet then was designated a Naval Aviator in 1962 and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps at Chase Field Naval Air Station in Beeville, Texas. After serving in the Marine Corps, Jim joined Trans World Airlines as a commercial pilot. He retired from American Trans Air as a Captain on the Lockheed L-1011 jumbo jet in 2000. Jim enjoyed wonderful times golfing at Hillcrest Country Club and the McCall Golf Course where he continued the family tradition of playing in the annual McCall Amateur Tournament. At one time, Jim achieved a 3 handicap. During retirement, he enjoyed his home in McCall where he welcomed and entertained family and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Bernice Sproat, and his loving partner, Diane Richards. Jim is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Ric and Jan Lee Sproat of Scottsdale, Arizona; son, Michael Sproat and Maricia Harris, of Nampa, Idaho; daughter, Christina Drummond and her husband, Travis, of Boise, Idaho; daughter, Carolyn Jackson and her husband Troy, of Boise, Idaho; grandsons, Cameron Jeffery, Chaz Jeffery, Christian Jeffery and Bryar Jackson; and granddaughter, Jacquelyn Jackson. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Duane Jessen for his friendship and commitment to Jim. A Celebration of Life will be held in Boise at Hillcrest Country Club, 4610 Hillcrest Drive on January 11 from 3 – 6 pm.
