In memory of
JAMES EARL SEVERSON
James Earl Severson passed away on January 4, 2017 in Elgin after a brief illness. He was born on April 2, 1930 in Chicago to Earl and Dorothy (Nelson) Severson. During World War II, his family moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan while his father, Earl, worked as a B-24 project manager/pilot for the Ford Motor Company at the Willow Run Plant. He was a graduate of Bradley University. While stationed in New York city as a special agent in the Counter Intelligence Corps of the U.S. Army, he met Doris Alspach, then a stewardess for Eastern Airlines, and married in March of 1957. He was a longtime employee of the Reuben H. Donnelley company as an Account Executive. Jim was an avid golfer, a member of Elgin Post 57 of the American Legion, a longtime member of the Sons of Norway (Skjold Lodge) and the Torske Club. He was very proud of his Norwegian Heritage. He also loved his visits up north to Sister Bay in Door County with his wife Doris. He is survived by his loving children, son Richard Earl (Clare) and his two stepsons Justin and Brian, and daughter Karen Elizabeth. As a lifelong dog lover, donations may be made in his name to the Helping Paws Animal Shelter in Huntley, IL or an animal shelter of your choice. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to JourneyCare Hospice. The family is planning a Celebration of Life which will be announced to family and friends at a later date.
