ATLANTA, GEORGIA - James Larry "Tadpole" Provence died on October 6, 2016, in Atlanta, Georgia surrounded by family and friends. Tad was born on August 1, 1944. He was the fourth of seven, born to Mildred Shettles Provence and James O'Neal Provence. He grew up in his beloved hometown of New Albany, Mississippi. He diligently followed the news and progress of his birthplace through regular visits and his fifty-year subscription to the New Albany Gazette. Tad, (jersey #65) graduated from New Albany High School in 1962 where the honor "best personality" was received and his love of football was initiated. He graduated from the University of Mississippi with a degree in business. He followed his biological brother Dean, "Frog", into Sigma Nu fraternity, and many have said he will always be remembered as a "legend". His pride and obsession with Ole Miss drove his passion of sharing his 1931 Model A "the Rambling Rebel" at football games and other events. He was delighted that photos with The Car had become a hallmark of game day. Atlanta, Georgia became Tad's adult home after college, and the North Atlanta Rotary Club, became a source of pride and camaraderie. Tad enjoyed traveling internationally and hanging out with friends. In 1990, Tad, along with his wife, Judi Zelasko Provence, established "The Floor Gallery", a comprehensive flooring business. They expanded with the addition of "Glover's Flooring" in 1994. Survivors include his wife, Judith Zelasko Provence of 29 years; son, Benjamin Tad Provence (Christina); daughter, Amanda Provence Boyette (Brad) and son, Alex Mark Provence. His son, Ben, contends that Tad was "the best grandfather ever". He leaves grandchildren, Edi (9), Heidi (7) and Hunter Provence (5) and Morgan Boyette (8). Additional survivors include: siblings, Glenda Provence Conlee and Patsy Provence Livingston of New Albany and Bradley Provence (also a Sigma Nu) of Millington, Tennessee. Finally, he leaves adoring in-laws (Mary, Grace, Steve and Emily) nieces, nephews, cousins, Aunt Gene, Uncle Jim, numerous friends and Sigma Nu brothers. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Jerry, Dean and Donny. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 22, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Unity Atlanta Church, 3597 Parkway Lane, Peachtree Corners, Georgia 30092. Additionally, a memorial service will be held Saturday, November 12, 2016, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 207 East Bankhead Street, New Albany, Mississippi 38652.
