James Tupper Perry
James Tupper Perry WILLIAMSTON - James Tupper Perry, 87, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 13, 2017. He was born to Simon A. Perry and Ellen Ward Perry on July 16, 1929. Known for his kindness, dedication and gentlemanly manner, Tupper was a loved and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, touching the lives of so many who will miss him enormously. He was a faithful member of Piney Grove Baptist Church for 61 years, where he served as a deacon, was involved with The Message of Easter for many years, and was especially dedicated to the Adult Men's Class #2. A farmer and devoted family man foremost, he also served his country as a member of the North Carolina National Guard and the United States Army. Tupper served his community as a rural letter carrier with United States Postal Service for 30 years and as a district supervisor for the Martin County Soil and Water Conservation District for 40 years. He also served as a volunteer fireman with the Griffins Township Fire Department. In addition to his parents, Tupper was preceded in death by brothers Simon, Bridgeman, Ward, Bobby and sister Marie Coltrain. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Miriam Peel Perry; son James T. Perry, Jr., wife Tammy Williams Perry and son James Matthew; daughter Miriam Perry Dennis, husband Ed and son Cameron Edward of Bethel; sisters Eleanor Peel, Sylvia Day and husband Bill of Washington, Pearl Corey and husband Geoffrey; sister-in-law Barbara Perry; extended family Danny Griffin and Bruce and Cynthia Peele; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Piney Grove Baptist Church Fellowship Hall on Wednesday, February 15 from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM and other times at the home at 1478 Hollow Pond Rd. A memorial service will be held at Piney Grove Baptist Church on Thursday, February 16 at 11:00 AM, with interment following at Tice Community Cemetery. Flowers are welcomed, but in lieu of flowers, people may consider memorials to Piney Grove Baptist Church, 2925 Piney Grove Church Rd, or Griffins Township Fire Department, 1487 Hollow Pond Rd, both of Williamston, NC 27892.
