James Porter Perkins, 77, of Ruckersville, Virginia, died Thursday, October 6, 2016, as the result of a motor vehicle accident. Born November 24, 1938, in Albemarle County, he was the son of the late Wilmer Porter and Evelyn Jackson Perkins. James never met a stranger and everyone loved him. He was a life member of the Macedonia United Methodist Church of Louisa, Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Virginia "Jenny" Morris Perkins of Ruckersville; two daughters, Tammy Lynn Perkins and husband, Jaime Cancela-Vaz, of Manassas, Ginger Lynn Perkins of Lynchburg; sisters, Delmayne P. Carter and husband, Harry, Nancy P. Harlow and husband, Clay, all of Louisa; his best friend, Freddie Ray Frazier of Ruckersville; and a number of nieces and nephews. A private memorial service for family was held on Sunday, October 16, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Browns Cove United Methodist Church, Crozet, Virginia, with Pastor Benjamin Houchens officiating. One of James' final last wishes was to see his spectacular Christmas light display turned on starting November 26 at his residence in Ruckersville. Therefore, due to his untimely death, this event will be held as a memorial to him. The Christmas lights will remain on display until January 2. The family requests that memorial contributions be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, VA 23060.
