James C. NORTHROP Sr.
NORTHROP, James C. Sr. of Lutz, FL, was taken home by The Lord to join his family in Heaven on Thursday, April 13, 2017. Born in Miami, FL August 13, 1930 to the late Floyd and Janice. He was raised on a farm with siblings, Esther Hudson, Robert (both deceased) and Emilie Ferland. A presence in Agriculture education serving the youth for the State of Florida was his 40-year career, prior to his retirement. He received his HS diploma from Miami-Jackson High School in 1948, and ultimately earned his Doctorate degree from the University of Florida in 1970. As a Weapons Instructor in the United States Army, during the Korean War, he wrote Night Vision procedures for Aiming & Firing Instructions for the M1 Rifle. For 50+ years, his favorite activity was participating as a singer, director and coach with SPEBSQSA, otherwise known as Barbershop Harmony. During his time at UF, Jim met Grace Moose, daughter of a dairy farmer from Jacksonville, FL, they married and had three children, James C. Jr. (daughter-in-law, Marsha), Julia J. Little (son-in-law, Jerold), and John R. (daughter-in-law, Louise). He was given six grandchildren, Jennifer Parry, John Eric, Jordan Elizabeth, Julienne Grace, Albert James, and Jacob Chandler; and two great-grandchildren, Ella Grace Parry and Ava Janice Parry. A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 4000 NW 53rd Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32653 on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 11 am. Reception immediately following; details will be available at the service. In lieu of flowers, you can honor James C.
