James D. Minford
James Dean Minford, Ph.D., 93, of Lower Burrell, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016, in Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia. He was born Feb. 27, 1923, in Clairton, a son of the late James Briggs and Stella (Barbour) Minford. James lived in Hilton Head Island, S.C., for the past 36 years and was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church in Hilton Head. He was a research scientist for Alcoa, retiring in 1980 after 26 years of service. James was proud to have served his country as an ensign in the Navy during World War II. He enjoyed world traveling and was an extremely talented musician and singer. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Jones Minford. Survivors include two sons, Dr. James D. (Cathy) Minford, of Lower Burrell, and Dr. Jon K. (Terri) Minford, of Cooksville, Md.; grandsons, Robert J. Minford, of Richmond, Va., and Connor J. Minford, of Sacramento, Calif.; and granddaughters, Rachel D. Minford (Timothy) Mullinix, of Sykesville, Md., and Megan A. Minford (Casey) Koscianski, of Rostraver. Family and friends are invited to a time of remembrance from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the FRANK F. GIGLER FUNERAL HOME, 2877 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell, PA 15068, where a memorial service will follow at 8 p.m., with the Rev. Kirk Orr of Puckety Presbyterian Church, officiating.
