James M. McDonough
OLEAN - James M. McDonough passed away Friday (April 14, 2017) at Absolut Care of Allegany. Born Aug. 19, 1922, in Olean, he was a son of the late George and Cora McDonough. On May 16, 1959, in Allegany, he married Myrtle K. Kinney, who passed away Dec. 25, 2006. Jim was a graduate of Olean High School and St. Bonaventure University. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. He worked at Dresser-Rand for over 40 years until his retirement. He was a member and past commander of the Olean American Legion Post 530; and a member of the VFW 1619 and the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. During the last part of his life, he resided at Sister Pat's Home on South First Street, Olean. Surviving are a daughter, Penelope "Penny" Colechio Thomas of Bradenton, Fla.; step-nephew, Samuel Colechio IV of Harrisburg, Pa.; and great-nieces and great-nephews in Florida and Texas. He was predeceased by his wife; a stepson, Samuel Colechio III; a sister, Althea Ducey; and a brother, Berton Wertz. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State St., Olean. Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Wednesday (April 19, 2017) in the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. The Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. A Scripture wake service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
