James Edward Martin Sr.
James Edward Martin, Sr., was born on January 26, 1948, in Soso, MS., to the late Amanda Ruth Martin and Tilson Evans. James accepted Jesus Christ, as his Lord and Savior, at an early age. With his lifelong favorite scripture being "The Lord is my Shepherd:" Psalms 23. He attended his family church. James cherished many things in his life, but his main focus was showing his sons how to be a jack of all trades. He was known to many as "Pops," "Bubba," "Bo," and "Slim." While working for the State of Louisiana, operating the Danzinger Draw Bridge, James started seeking other career opportunities. He began to have a passion for carpentry. He worked as a carpenter, for more than 40 years, with various companies, until his health began to fail. For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: II Timothy 4:6-7. On Tuesday, January 3, 2017, God picked a flower from His garden. James leaves to all that knew him, many fond and pleasant memories to cherish, his beloved children: James Jr., Bennie (Michelle), Brian (Shawnette), Kevin (Nicole), Dedra, Chiara (Kevin), Jermaine (Latrecia), Terry (Sterling), Almonzo Sr., Brandon, Raven, Joseph, and Randy; siblings: Annie Ruth (Terrance), Darlene (Eddie), Dorothy Jean, Jennifer, Cynthia, Thomas (Fannie), Mark, Durham, Michael, and Calvin (Raynetta). He also leaves behind 32 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. James was preceded in death by his parents, Amanda Martin Newell and Tilson Evans, step-father, Sylvester Newell, Jr., and brother, Roy C. Newell. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Funeral Services on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at New Beginning Ministry, 36196 Oceola Street, Slidell, LA., at 11:00 a.m. Visitation from 9:00 a.m until service time.
