James Arthur Mahan
James Arthur Mahan Age: 63 • Burlington James A. Mahan, 63, passed away Saturday morning April 15, 2017 @ UVM Medical Center after a lingering illness. He was born in Burlington, VT July 19, 1953 the second of three sons of Francis Mahan Sr. & Ruth Elizabeth (Wills) Mahan. He graduated Champlain Valley Union High School in 1971 and Champlain College in 1973 with a degree in accounting. For many years he was one of the auditors for the town of Williston. James was employed on the family farm in Williston until the operation moved to New Haven, September 20, 1989. He and his sister Nancy became limited partners and continued farming in various segments, retiring from farming in May 2008 from the last farm they mutually owned in Denmark NY. After living 14 months in Hinesburg with youngest brother David, James, Nancy and David would move to South Burlington where James and Nancy retired. James is survived by his brothers Francis, Jr. and his wife Casey of Williston and David of South Burlington, a niece, Beth Marie Mahan Tenney and her family of Charlotte, a nephew Mark Alan Mahan and his wife Pamela and their family of Everett, Washington and several cousins. His sister, Nancy, predeceased him on April 2, 2016. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, April 20 between 4pm - 7pm at Gifford Funeral Home, 22 Depot Street, Richmond. A service will be held at 1pm Friday, April 21 at Gifford Funeral Home. Visit to Express condolences and sign the guest book.
