James Thomas Jenkins Henderson James Thomas Jenkins, a resident of Henderson NC and Emerald Isle NC, died Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at his home in Henderson. Born April 9, 1951 in Henderson, he was the son of the late James Wiggins Jenkins, Jr. and Anne Upchurch Jenkins. Tommy was a graduate of Darlington School in Rome, Georgia and East Carolina University where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He was a petroleum marketer, President of J.W. Jenkins, Inc. and member of YPO, Young Presidents' Organization. During his business career and retirement, he served on the boards of Salvation Army of Henderson, Bank of America of Henderson, North Carolina Petroleum Marketers Association, Prevent Blindness North Carolina, and North Carolina Commission for the Blind. Tommy was a past Chairman of the Administrative Board of First United Methodist Church of Henderson and member of the Vestry of St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church of Salter Path, NC. He is survived by his wife, Frances Massey Jenkins; two sons, James Thomas Jenkins, Jr. and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Marshall Carroll, and Barrett Massey Jenkins and daughter-in-law Brooke Patterson Jenkins; three granddaughters, Alexandra Carroll Jenkins, Julia Carroll Jenkins, and Lillian Miller Jenkins; sister, Maria Jenkins Mills; sister-in-law Susan Cashwell Jenkins; brothers-in-law, R. Daniel Massey, Jr. and Guy Barrett Massey; and several nieces and nephews. His brother, Robert Upchurch Jenkins, preceded him in death. The family expresses gratitude to Moses Onchonga and Mahalia Anderson for their compassionate care and companionship to Tommy. The family is also grateful to those who provided additional care and support. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Henderson on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 2:00 PM. The family will receive visitors from 12:30-1:45 in the Fellowship Hall and other times at the home, 2180 Valley View Drive. Interment will be private.
