James Russell "Jim" Hite
JAMES "JIM" RUSSELL HITE James "Jim" Russell Hite, age 92, entered into the presence of his Lord on January 11, 2017 due to complications of dementia. Born November 4, 1924, in Vincennes, IN, he was the 4th child born to the late Samuel Edward and Masie Lillian (Mayhugh) Hite. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Nora Louise (Coler) Hite, sister LaVonia (George) Cady, brother Mayhugh (Avanelle) Hite, sister Marie (Emmet) Douglas. Jim is survived by his four children, John (Nancy) Hite of Warrenville, IL; Patty (Ralph) Nabinger of Port Alsworth, AK; Beth Hubbard of Crown Point, IN; Sue (Todd) Kelly of Wheaton, IL; seven grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends. Viewing is 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Fagen Miller Funeral Home , 8580 Wicker Ave. St. John, IN. Funeral services will be held on Monday at Lake Hills Baptist Church, 9209 W. 85th Ave. Schererville, IN with visiting from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Phil Humber officiating. Interment will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In 1945 Jim joined the Army Air Corps and served as a Corporal and received an Honorable discharge in 1947. He received the WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, and the Meritorious Unit Award. Jim worked as an electrician at Blaw-Knox Foundry & Mill Machinery, Inc in East Chicago, IN. While there, he and others started a noon Bible Study that many attended and benefited from over the years. Being a man of strong faith, he believed in the power and strength of Jesus Christ's love to transform lives. At two local churches (Lowell and Cedar Lake) he was active in establishing Bus Ministries that were designed to provide transportation to those who would not otherwise be able to come to church. In recent years, he was an active member of Lake Hills Baptist Church in Schererville and was a very giving person, helping others in need anytime he could. He went on various mission trips, helped in AWANA, enjoyed gardening, and was loved by many.
