James Henry Harris Lenoir City, TN James Henry Harris, 89, of Lenoir City, passed away early Saturday morning, April 15, 2017. James was born, February 3, 1928 in Philadelphia, TN. He was a graduate of Tennessee Military Institute and the United States Military Academy (West Point), which ultimately lead to a career in the U.S. Army. During his career, Jim served tours in South Korean, Vietnam (Combat), and Europe in infantry, armor, and ordnance career fields. James retired in 1972 and settled his family in Lenoir City, Tennessee. James graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1978. He enjoyed serving the citizens of Lenoir City and Loudon as a partner of the Loudon, TN law firm Arnold, Winfrey, Simpson and Harris. He retired from active law practice in 2007 but continued to be an active member of the Tennessee Bar Association. James, Marilyn, and family were members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church for many years where James served on the Session and taught the adult Sunday School. Following his retirement from the practice of law, James enjoyed many rounds of golf with Marilyn, traveling, and creative woodworking. He was an intellectual individual, who enjoyed learning, exploring new technologies, intriguing discussions, and a challenge. He was a lively, loving spirit and carried with him a magnetic personality that welcomed friends, neighbors, and strangers alike. James was an extremely dedicated husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. He treasured and delighted in time with his family. James (or Henry as many in family knew him) passed peacefully Saturday, April 15th in the company of his family. James was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan and Susan Harris of Sweetwater, TN and step-daughter, Karen Master of St. Clair, MI. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marilyn Jean Harris; his children, James Scott Harris (Patricia) of Hendersonville, TN, John Nathan Harris (Antoinette) of Hulbert Field, FL, Paul Harvey Harris (Carrie) of Clovis, NM, and Leslie Hartman (Keith) of Louisville, KY; brother, Charles (Rickey) of Kingston, TN; sister, Mary Dalton of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Nathan Scott Harris (Christine), Reese Jagger Harris, and Molly Grace Harris; and great-grandson, Parker James Harris. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 20th at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Don McConnell officiating. Interment will be at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 24th at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on Sevier Highway in Knoxville with military honors.
