James M. Hammond
James M. Hammond 59, of Dunedin, FL, formerly of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on January 7, 2017, after a five-year battle with colon cancer. Jim was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to John R. Hammond, Jr. and Lynn M. Hammond, and grew up on the South Side, graduating from Southport High School in 1975. While at Southport, Jim lettered in basketball and tennis, was named MVP in both sports his senior year, and ultimately honored by being inducted in the Southport High School Athletic Wall of Fame. After high school, Jim attended Hanover College, where he continued his basketball and tennis careers. He was All-Conference and Co-MVP of the basketball team his senior year. Recently, he was inducted into the Hanover College Athletic Hall of Fame. Jim married Polly Sallee in 1978, and he graduated from Hanover College with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1979. He then took a job as a loan review officer with AFNB. While working, he attended the IU McKinney School of Law, graduating in 1984. Opportunity took Jim and his young family to Clearwater, Florida, where he joined his high school teammate and great friend Jim Krivacs in Dynamics Sports Management, Inc., representing professional baseball players. He later moved into the private practice of law, culminating as a sole practitioner with the Law Offices of James M. Hammond. Jim was known for his integrity, zealous client advocacy and as a fierce, but honorable, competititor. He was a champion in every way. Jim was recognized as a Sagamore of the Wabash by Vice President-elect Governor Mike Pence, the highest award an Indiana governor can accord a citizen. Jim was preceded in death by his father, and is survived by his mother, Lynn Hammond Bowles, his loving wife of 38 years, Polly Sallee Hammond, and his wonderful children: Ruth E. Hammond; Aaron J. Hammond (Lindsey); Rachel Rocco (Chris); Rebekah Hammond Dorworth (Christopher); Sarah S. Bijoy (Ranjit); Joshua L. Hammond. He is also survived by four grandchildren, and his seven siblings: Sharon Hammond; John Hammond III; Jerry Hammond; Melanie Hammond Clark; Joel Hammond; Mary Hammond Atkinson; and Jeff Hammond and 17 nieces and nephews. Jim's passion in life was to influence others to faith in Christ. Romans 10:9 states, "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." A celebration of life was held in Dunedin, FL.
