In memory of
James Clayton Goree Jr.
CENTREVILLE - James Clayton Goree, Jr. left this world to walk and talk with Jesus on October 3, 2016. Joyfully he will be joining his parents, J.C. and Sue Goree, Sr. His beautiful spirit will live on in his children, Deeanna Smitherman (Donnie) and Jim Goree, III; his grandchildren, Ashlyn Ward, Emily Kennedy (Cameron), Rosanna Browder (Alex), Dillon Wright and Mary Sophia Goree; and his great-grandchildren, Hunter, Brennon, Mason, Tyler, Tucker and Cole. He deeply loved and was loved by survivors Anna Goree, mother of his children; brothers, Donald and Al Goree; sister, Barbara Bruce (Troy); several nieces and nephews; and special companion, Angela Stewart. He touched the lives of many throughout his career as high school English teacher and it was common for him to hear an adoring former student shout, "Mr. Goree!" everywhere he went. He loved teaching literature, reading, writing, old cars, growing flowers and flying kites on the beach. His favorite activity was fishing and he was known for telling folks he was just, "sittin' on the dock of the bay". Honorary pallbearers are Danny Grey, Dr. Gary Newsom, Stan Stamps, Daniel Stewart, Ivan Duncan, Tony Stewart, Larry Griffin, Dr. Jeffery Anderson, Dr. Scott Fulgham and Hospice of West Alabama. A celebration of life will be planned in the spring. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
