James G. Fahrety III
STONY POINT - James G. "Doc" Faherty III, beloved husband, father, uncle and friend, passed away Oct. 1, 2016, at home in Stony Point. He was born Sept. 8, 1934, a son of James G. Faherty Jr. and Martha Shelly. Jim graduated Jesuit High School in Tampa, Fla.; attended Notre Dame University; received his bachelor's degree from St. Bonaventure University; and earned his doctorate in English from Fordham University. He taught English at Wells and at North Rockland High School until his retirement in 1995. He was committed to his students, whom he considered like a second family, and ran the video club for many years. Jim took great pride in family and loved them all dearly. He was a die-hard fan of the New York Mets, Jets and Rangers; dedicated to his Labrador retrievers; and an avid golfer and photographer. He is survived by his adoring wife and best friend of 57 years, M. Teresa A. Faherty; a son, James G. Faherty IV; a daughter-in-law, Andrea; a sister, MaryJane Kidd; two brothers, Peter (Joyce) and Fred (Marilyn); extended family and friends, including sister-in-law Grace Petruzzi (Frank); many nieces, nephews and cousins; Jeannie (Michael) Gannett; and other family. After a funeral ceremony in Stony Point, he is at rest in St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Allegany.
