JAMES EVANS BLACKSBURG, S.C.-James E. Evans, age 88, resident of Blacksburg, South Carolina, went home to be with his Lord on Jan. 11, 2017, at his home. He was born in Cleveland County, N.C., to the late James Robert Evans and Minnie Christine Church Evans. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Janie Viola Robinson Evans; sons, Roger Evans and Harold Evans; sister, Ruth Robinson. Mr. Evans was a member of First Baptist Church, Grover, where he previously served on the Van Committee. He retired as a supervisor after 46 years of service from Minette Mills, Grover, and was a founding member of the Grover Rescue Squad and Grover Fire Department. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He is survived by his sons, Kenneth R. Evans and wife Tina, Blacksburg, S.C., James L. Evans and wife Barbara, Gaffney, S.C.; daughters, Janie Satterfield, Blacksburg, S.C., Catherine Evans Burchfield and husband Jim, Blacksburg, S.C.; brothers, Bobby Evans and wife Helen, Blacksburg, S.C., Lewis Evans and wife Helen, Spartanburg, S.C.; daughter-in-law, Linda Evans, Blacksburg, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Christy Rippy, Jerry Hamby, Jr., Tommy Evans, Jama Taylor, Ashley Rippy, Lindsey Evans and Matt Evans; and two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Lacey. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at Harris Funeral Home, Kings Mountain. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, at First Baptist Church Grover, officiated by the Rev. John Barnhardt, and Rev. Paul Sorrells.
