James Leroy Burdge
James Leroy Burdge, 81, of Duncannon, PA, passed away at home on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 following a courageous battle with leukemia. He was born in Peru Lack, Juniata County, to the late Robert M. and Margaret L. (Peck) Burdge and was the beloved husband of Cora M. (Lancaster) Burdge, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. Jim attended Juniata Joint High School. He was a lumber inspector (retired) for the J. Nevin White Lumber Company in Duncannon. An experienced hunter, mechanic and gardener, he enjoyed masonry, wood working, the outdoors, his Harley, his mules, NASCAR, Zane Grey novels, and playing the banjo. Jim was a member of Perry Lodge #458, F&AM, Marysville, the Harrisburg Consistory and the Scottish Rite, Harrisburg. His family and friends all loved and respected him as a strong Christian man. The quality of his character and the joy with which he lived his life were his greatest gifts to the people he loved. In addition to his wife, he is survived by their children: Elmer T. Cohenour, husband of the late Sharon Tadora of Mount Union, Peggy L. Burdge, wife of Stephen Fama of Elizabethtown, Patricia L. Stoner, wife of Donald, Sr. of Carlisle, Pauline L. Ward, wife of Rick of Millerstown, one granddaughter, Sarah (Engle) Smith and three great-grandchildren; James, Jr., Bentley and Audrey of Carlisle. He is also survived by three brothers; Donald Burdge, husband of Hazel of East Waterford, John Burdge of Mifflin, Robert (Steve) Burdge of Honey Grove and a sister Eloise Scott of Orbisonia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; Danny Burdge and Barry Burdge and a sister, Patricia A. Burdge. The family would like to thank medical personnel, nurses, doctors, aids and the staff at Hospice of Central PA for their wonderful care in making Jim's last weeks comfortable. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jim's Celebration of Life Funeral Service at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 327 Newport Road, Duncannon, PA on Tuesday, October 18, 2016. A viewing will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, Masonic Services by Perry Lodge will be conducted at 12:00 Noon. Followed by the Funeral Service with Pastor Donald Littleton officiating. The interment will be in Penn Memory Gardens, Duncannon, PA immediately following the funeral service. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Michael J. Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville.
