April 29, 1959 - Dec. 14, 2016 James Barrera passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 14, in Woodland. He was 57, born April 29, 1959, Mr. Barrera was the eldest of four children. He was a lifelong resident of Woodland. He received a BA from California State University in Government/Journalism. After college, Mr. Barrera worked for the Sacramento Bee as an Education Service Coordinator (1998-2007). He was also a freelance writer of subjects such as concerts, festivals, and historical individuals. Additionally, Mr. Barrera was the Manager/Publicist for the dance group Folklorico Latino de Woodland for many years. From 2009 to present, he worked as a Lead Sales Associate for Vitamin World in Vacaville. Mr. Barrera's true passion was as a professional Trick Roper and Whip Master. He began performing in 1994, and continued up until his death. During these years, he performed throughout California in hundreds of fairs, schools, historical and arts celebrations, and countless festivals. He entertained thousands. James greeted everyone with a smile and was well loved in the community. Mr. Barrera is survived by his mother, Alice Barrera; his sister, Lucinda Barrera, and his brothers, Daniel and Tim Barrera; nieces, Marissa Barrera, Andrea Vidales, and nephews, Joseph and Michael Barrera. Services will be held at McNary's Chapel, 458 College St., Thursday, Jan. 12 from 3 to 5 p.m. A celebration of life will immediately follow.
