Jacob "Jake" Schissler, 89, was born May 31, 1927, to Jacob and Eva (Busch) Schissler in Henderson. He graduated from Brighton High School May 30, 1945, and on May 31, 1945, he entered the U.S. Navy and served on the aircraft carrier USS Hancock as a gunners mate. After his discharge from the Navy in 1946, he attended Mesa College in Grand Junction, graduating with a degree in business. He worked for Swift & Co. in Denver from 1950-1966. After Swift and Co. closed, the United States Department of Agriculture hired him as a meat inspector. He retired from the USDA in 1994. Survivors include his daughter, Cynthia Schissler, of Fort Lupton; his son, Glen (Paula) Schissler, of Spring, Texas; three granddaughters, Jennifer LaTrielle, Crystal LaTrielle and Madison Schissler; one grandson, Jacob Schissler; and two great-grandsons, Aiden LaTrielle and Collin LaTrielle. His wife, Janice; his parents; three sisters, Evelyn, Elise Irene and Virginia; and four brothers, Jacob, Jr., Edward, Leo Elmer and Vernon, preceded him in death. The funeral service was Oct. 14 at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home in Brighton, which handled the arrangements. Burial followed at Elmwood Cemetery.
