Jackie Sonny Paul Day, 83, passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016. He was born March 4, 1933 in Forsyth County to the late Joe Ring Day and Mary Belle Deal Day. Sonny graduated from Jonesville High School where he played football and basketball. He joined the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska. Early in his life he attended Jonesville First Baptist Church. Sonny was a fireman in Salisbury and then for 32 years he worked for the state of North Carolina as a driver license examiner. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Banner and Betty Jo Haynes. Surviving are his wife, Lois Faye Bass Day; children, Paul Bradley (Gina) Day and Sharon (Richard) Hedgepeth; grandchildren, Levi Day andKaitlin Lowe; sister, Lucille Furches; and several nieces and nephews. Service and Visitation: His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016 at Gentry Family Chapel in Jonesville, officiated by the Rev. Dennis Pruitt. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens with military rights by the Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville.
