April 6, 1946 - February 11, 2017 EDMOND Jack William Smith, of Edmond, or Jackie, as he was known to family and friends, passed away peacefully at the age of 70 on February 11, 2017, in Oklahoma City, after a brief illness. Jackie was born on April 6, 1946, in Oklahoma City to Robert and Connie Smith. He lived most of his life in Edmond and graduated from Edmond High School. He married his wife Sandy on December 8, 1967, in Edmond. Thirteen years later they were blessed by the birth of their only child, Ashley. Jackie retired as a Sergeant Major in the Oklahoma Army National Guard. After his retirement, he spent almost eight years in Afghanistan working for various defense contractors. He loved his pets, enjoyed fishing, and restored cars, boats and motorcycles in his spare time. Jackie is remembered as warm and friendly soul who never met a stranger. He had the knowledge and expertise to repair almost anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Smith, sister Donna Sue Stilwell, mother-in-law and father-in-law Vera and Floyd Jordan, and brother-in-law Jim Spruill. He is survived by his wife Sandy of the home, daughter Ashley of Oklahoma City, mother Connie of Edmond, cousin and best friend Phil Smith and his wife Sharon of Edmond, sister-in-law Ethel Spruill of Edmond, niece Michelle Sommers and husband Rob of Oklahoma City, niece Stacey Peck and her husband James of Edmond, niece Sharon Derrick and her husband Harvey of Edmond, niece Brenda Winkler of San Francisco, nephew Josh Himes of Colorado Springs, nephew Jason Winkler and his wife Emilia and children Tyler, Ava, and Elle of San Francisco, nephew Devin Derrick of Edmond, nephew Caleb Derrick and his wife Kari and daughters Kylie, Brooklynn, and Remington of Mustang, and niece Angel Derrick and daughter Andi of Edmond. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday at Matthews Funeral Home. Services will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Edmond First Church of the Nazarene.
