Jack Bernard Russ Holt Jack Bernard Russ went to be with his heavenly father on the morning of Good Friday, April 14th, 2017, after his hard-fought battle with skin cancer. He was 86 years old. Jack was born to Clinton and Helen Russ in Lansing, MI on August 25th, 1930. He played baseball at Michigan State University, and graduated with a degree in business. Shortly after graduation, Jack served two years with the U.S. Army as an infantry sergeant at Fort Carson, CO. In 1955, he returned to Michigan and became a district manager for Total Petroleum. Jack was an intelligent, loving, and cheerful man, who had a passion for four things—his faith, his family, his sports, and his poker. Jack was a member of the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church for the entirety of his life, where he enjoyed whistling hymns and teaching Sunday school. He was the patriarch of a tight knit family, who he loved dearly. Jack enjoyed watching the Tigers, the Spartans, and his grandkids play baseball. No matter the level of ball, the whole stadium (especially the umpires) knew exactly what was on his mind. If he wasn't at church or the baseball field, you could probably find him at a poker table. Jack loved playing cards, especially with his Wednesday poker club. Jack will be remembered for his sharp wit and generous heart. He never forgot a face and would do anything for anyone, anytime. He expressed his passion for others through volunteering in the patient services department at McLaren Hospital. Jack's love for his family and friends was unparalleled. Jack is survived by his wife, Sandy; his brother, David (Joy); his sons Tom (Pat), Randy (Ronda), Jeff (Gail), Mark (Judy), and Danny (Jane); his daughter, Cindy (Dave) Kruger; his step-sons Chris (Angie) Swope and Jeff Swope; his step-daughter Sue (Brad) Karikomi; fourteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first love, Virginia; his parents; and his sister, Shirley Clark. A visitation will be held at Palmer Bush and Jenson Family Funeral Homes, Holt Chapel on Monday, April 17th at 4-8 pm. The funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, April 18th at 1:00 pm at Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, Lansing. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jack's life. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Garden with military honors rendered by the VFW Post #701 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Michigan Boys Outfitters or Mt. Hope United Methodist Church. Friends may send a condolence to the family at www.palmerbush.com .
